Sharing the Love/Feeding the Soul

It is definitely cheesecake season again and I love sharing these with you.  The smells and sounds of baking bring back so many happy memories.  My Grandma Mary was like some sort of kitchen magician. She made the most amazing cakes and cookies without ever using a recipe. I will never forget her fluffy white coconut cake and black walnut cookies with cream cheese penuche frosting.  My Great Grandmother Eatinger seemed to always be baking pies when we were over--cherry pie, apple pie, pecan pie--holy cow were they good.  And them my mother, the MacGyver of the kitchen as she is called, has ALWAYS been able to whip something up at the drop of a hat.  A full meal from a can of tuna!  Watching her bake is truly an experience.  She knows if a dough is the right texture and consistency just by looking at it, and adds a pinch of this or handful of that to perfect it.  That does not always translate into a recipe that can be written down and shared, but, she can tell you if it is good just from the smell. And so it goes for me in my kitchen.  I try to recreate what these amazing women had and have been making for years.  The challenge is not only to recreate it but to make things my own.  The thought of these women baking in their kitchens, the love they shared with us through their food-well that just brings a big ol smile to my face and warmth to my heart.  As I am finishing up Thanksgiving orders today, I am so happy so be sharing my love with all of you.  With each cake comes the opportunity and challenge to make them unique and just a bit better than the last one.  Sometimes it comes through trying a new ingredient, brand or flavor combination but most importantly I bake to feed the soul. Remember to take a few moments to enjoy all of the sounds, smells and especially the love that surrounds you this Thanksgiving and be truly thankful for them.

I have updated the menu and made a few changes.  This year my offerings are limited to 8" and 10" rounds.  This will help increase the amount of orders I can get out in a day so if you were accustomed to the personal sizes,  I thank you for understanding.  Now is the time to order for your Winter Holiday Celebrations!  The end of December is only a month away after all.
